Spec's Update - 2004 Fourteen Scores 95+ pointsJanuary 02, 20072004 FOURTEEN APPELLATIONS Meritage, Napa Valley This 2004 iteration of Napa All-Appellations Meritage is a blend of 57.12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25.71% Merlot, 8.6% Petite Verdot, and 8.57% Cabernet Franc aged in 60% new and 40% seasoned oak barrels. The result is a big, juicy, ripe, complex red offering dark berry and cherry fruit with notes of tobacco, pencil shavings (cedar and graphite), black pepper, earth, and dust with an ethereal hint of berry liqueur perfume. Lots of ripeness, weight, and character but in balance, in focus, and of a piece. Inviting and Delicious. Still very young, it will develop and improve but it is already at least Excellent. Bear’s Score: 95+ points. « Back |
